Babylon 5 Fans: How many of these people can you recognize?

Bill Mumy is probably best remembered as young Will Robinson on the original Lost in Space, but he’ll always be Lennier to me. Nowadays, he’s pursuing his music career. (You can catch some of Bill Mumy’s music on Spotify.)

Anyhow, this past weekend, he posted this cellphone photo on Facebook, with Walter Koenig, Claudia Christian, Patricia Tallman, and J. Michael Straczynski.

Big B, little b, ...

Craft Beer

I’m not a beer drinker. But when I watched a recent Reason.TV video about craft beer, I wanted to become one. I’m not interested in YellowWater Light beer. I’m interested in the niche, microbrew beers, dark, stimulating, challenging, insightful. Craft beer, say the experts in the video, has “taken traditional styles and [run] with them… providing choices for people.” They go on to point out that the big 4 breweries “make the lightest beer imaginable in order to create the lowest common denominator of flavors, so that their marketing and their image is what people buy into, and there’s nothing about the flavor that challenges that decision for them.”

In fact, my only real exposure to beer was at a microbrewery, the Watch City Brewing Company, in Waltham, MA. We all went out for a farewell lunch there, one of the few rituals I miss about office life. We enjoyed burgers and fries, and a couple pitchers of brew, which I sampled. Interesting flavors, reminded me vaguely of herbal tea. And I still remember the experience fondly.

This appears to be turning into a blog-meme of sorts. No one has (to my knowledge) tagged anyone else, but the topic does seem to be inspiring a chain of posts.

Joanna Penn blogged back in April on 7 things she wish she knew before writing her first book. Then yesterday, Alexis Grant wrote about 4 things she wish she knew before writing her first book, ending her post with the question: Writers: what do you wish you knew before embarking on your first project? I saw these posts when Joanna tweeted them on Twitter, which inspired me to write this blog post you’re reading now. And that brings you up to date.

So now, while sipping the last of the coffee my pot will ever brew, between whiffs of acrid electrical smoke, I will talk about the 7 things I wish I knew before writing my first book.
